thumbnails if you upload an image and > quote tag them dont actually lower the filesize it seems to just be the same size image

it looks like its generating a thumbnail size image its just not putting it inside the quote tag?

or maybe it works completely differently then eti did

i always felt like eti’s thumbnails were a big excessively small at like 150px

i find this of note because people will literally just upload an embed 10mb gifs cause they feel like it

whats the max filesize anyways

i think ETI’s image servers were set up to actively transcode images to a smaller file to generate thumbnails

as you’ve demonstrated here, the same image is just being dynamically resized, while it appears smaller it still has the same filesize / memory footprint, you can even right click -> open image in new tab on the β€˜thumbnail’ and be given the full size img

stunt failed

this tech seems to actually be in place and working for avatars tho

β€œ1mb limit”
β€œ150x150 pixels maximum”

pictures are 10mb max and the thumbnails are max 1024x1024
i might make one level smaller for them idk

oh the easy thing (probably not easy) would be just implement β€œturn embedded imgs into links” as a toggle for mobile

γ‚’γ‚’γ‚’γ‚’γ‚‘γ‚‘γ‚‘γ‚’

i used to always use thumbnail on desktop as a compromise for when i’d be on mobile later
